How Do You Feel About Your Dentist? |
||
|
Majority of you will most probably will not be a great fan of your dentist and be too excited about attending dental appointments. Unfortunately in most cases this means you are more likely to suffer from major oral problems and end up needing extensive and expensive treatments. Those of you who keep up their 6-month dental check ups will probably have hardly any oral problems and if in any case you do, it does get treated very early on. It is a sad fact that a large percentage of the population does not have a dentist or has been to one for several years if at all. For many years I have been making every attempt to make people more oral health aware and care a little more about the cleaning of their teeth and mouth. The best way to ensure that you have healthy teeth is to have a good relationship with your dentist. Dentists are amongst the top ten most hated people on earth (for some strange bizarre reason) and why is this? Because by avoiding the dentist you end up having to go in as an emergency to have painful procedures done, (not that it hurts you wimps). It’s a catch 22 situation; you run away from the dentist and then when your tooth hurts (which notoriously is the second worse pain after childbirth apparently) you end up running to the dentist! Ironically! What really is sad to see is that children who have hardly ever been to the dentist are frightened. Who is responsible for this? The parents of course by passing their owns fears on. Having established that 6-month check ups are vital, what do we do about the fact that you don’t actually like your dentist? Find another one. You should have a pleasant relationship with your dentist because they are your friend in fact best friend, who out there can tell me their friend would clean (scale and polish) their mouth first thing in the morning before you have brushed it? Oh you would be surprised how many people come in without doing so. Putting the joke aside; Of course your dentist’s attitude and service plays a big part in how regular your dental visits is. I have been a dentist at Manor House Dental Surgery for the past three years and our main priority is the patients and providing them with the best care. Our company policy is treating every patient with utmost respect and equal standards. Members of staff are friendly and helpful. Having a great team to work with makes it an ease to provide an excellent service. Many patients of mine have come in reluctantly and left reassured and willing to recommend our surgery and the key to this customer satisfaction is respect, care and patience as well as empathy. When our young patient’s come in frightened of the dentist and reluctant to have any treatment I have reassured them and by approaching them as a friend I have gotten permission to carry out necessary treatment. Keeping my promise to them I attempt to make it as pain free as I can and only carry out treatment that they are willing to undergo without any pressure. The best part of my job is the satisfaction of knowing that the patients are happy and their gratitude. Many of my patient’s have sent me postcards from their holidays (trying to make me jealous) and wrote me letters of thanks that I treasure and like to share with you this week.
